Vanscoy became a village on June 17, 1919. It lies in central Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Vanscoy No. 345, on Highway 7 about 29 kilometres southwest of Saskatoon.
For many years Highway 7 ran right through the townsite. In 2019 the highway was rerouted to the north, and a 12-kilometre bypass now carries traffic around the village. It is part of a 31-kilometre twinned stretch between Delisle and Saskatoon.
One of the biggest employers nearby is the Agrium Vanscoy Potash Operations, which produces about 1,790,000 metric tonnes of potash a year. In the village, residents have a circle hall, an ice rink, a curling rink and a ball diamond. Vanscoy School teaches Kindergarten to Grade 8, and students then generally go on to nearby Delisle for Grades 9 to 12.
Pike Lake Provincial Park, about 16 kilometres to the southeast, offers hiking trails, boating and a marsh conservation area. The Otapasoo Trails Recreation Site is also within 19 kilometres.
